Congress takes lead as Manipur counts its ballot
Imphal: Initial tr s indicated the gap between Congress and others getting wider with the ruling party ahead at 15 seats. NPF was leading on 3 seats and PDF 4.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Works minister K Ranjit of Congress were leading from Thoubal and Sugnu seats respectively in Thoubal district.
Ibobi Singh was leading against his rival O Indira of BJP by 120 votes while Ranjit Singh was leading by 35 votes against his rival M Binod of Manipur People's Party.
In Sekmai assembly constituency, Congress candidate KH Deb ra is leading against his rival CPI candidate A Oken Singh.
Deb ra secured 2600 votes against Oken Singh's 1588 votes after counting of the first round. Education minister DD Thaisi of Congress (3866) is trailing behind the Naga People's Front nominee (6920) in the Karong (ST) after the first round of counting.
Congress leader and Forest minister Th. Deb ra is leading after the first round of counting (1516) against A Biren (1136) of Trinamool Congress in the Jiribam seat.
Counting for the 60-member Manipur assembly began at 8 AM this morning amidst tight security.
The counting began in all nine district headquarters and at the offices of the additional deputy commissioners, election office sources said.
The results are expected by afternoon.
They said there were 18 counting centres in the state.
Prohibitory orders were imposed at the counting centres where security personnel were deployed.
The Congress is contesting all the 60 seats.
An 11-party non-Congress Peoples Democratic Alliance is contesting against the Congress.
