Mumbai: ED s probe against Congress leader Kripashankar
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate has initiated an inquiry into former Maharashtra Congress chief Kripashankar Singh's disproportionate assets after Mumbai Police lodged an FIR against him on Bombay High Court's orders.
CNN-IBN has accessed details of 22 bank accounts of Kripashankar's family, which give details of his rise from rags to riches. The Samata Sahakari Bank account number 18966 belonging to his son Nar ramohan Singh witnessed a turnover of Rs 60 crore between 2007 and 2009. On paper Nar ramohan Singh has no known sources of income.
CNN-IBN has also accessed an I-T scrutiny report of his wife. It suggests that in 2004-05 her total taxable income was nil and income from agricultural land was Rs 69,000. However, an I-T probe established total taxable income to be over Rs 11,60,214.
Similarly, in 2005 and 2008 contrary to her claims of Rs 75,000 and Rs 1,28,000 as agricultural income, the Tax Department found her income to be over Rs 25,91,189 and Rs 1,35,68,333 respectively.
Kripashankar Singh is being probed in connection with an alleged Rs 320 crore disproportionate assets case. Last week the High Court directed the police to file an FIR against him and attach properties belonging to him and his family.
The court also directed Patnaik to probe the matter and submit a report by April 19. Singh had stepped down as the Maharashtra Congress chief after the High Court order against him.
